This years coaches poll has Mercyhurst in the top of Atlantic Hockey. The Lakers recieved 96 points and gained seven first place votes from the coaches. Last season Mercyhurst shared the top spot with Holy Cross in the coaches poll.
Last years surprise team, Sacred Heart came in second place with 88 points, while last seasons regular season and tournament champion Holy Cross came in third with 83 points. Holy Cross pulled off the biggest upset in NCAA tournament history as they defeated the #1 seed in the west and second overall seed in the tournament, Minnesota in overtime. The momentum could continue for the Crusaders this season and should do well early.
Connecticut, who made a trip to the semi-finals of the Atlantic Hockey tournament, was picked fourth by the coaches with 55 points. And one more notice is that Atlantic Hockey newcomer Air Force and Bentley tied for fifth with 51 points.
The bottom of the league consits of Canisius, Army, American International, and the second newcomer to Atlantic Hockey, Rochester Institute of Technology.
