CCHA Media Day

There were two media days today, Atlantic Hockey (which will be featured tommorrow), and the CCHA. Today we will take a look at the CCHA.

For the first time in awhile the coaches and the media did not agree on who they thought would be the top team in the conference.

In the Coaches poll the tally was based on an 11 (for first)-10 (second)- 9 (third) etc. point system, while the media went with the 12-11-10-9 etc. system.

The coaches poll usually looks a little more realistic than the media. With that in mind lets start breaking down the coaches poll.

Last year's CCHA tournament champion, Michigan State, is the favorite in the coaches poll as the recieved seven first place votes and 117 points overall. Michigan only had one first place vote, but they are placed in second in a narrow one point margin. The Miami Redhawks came in third but had more first place votes in the poll than Michigan with four. Ohio State rounds up the top four.

Other teams in the coaches poll in whom they think will get home ice for a first round series in the tournament are Alaska, Nebraska-Omaha, Northern Michigan, and Notre Dame.

Coaches poll
  1. Michigan State (7), 117
  2. Michigan (1), 108
  3. Miami (4), 107
  4. Ohio State, 84
  5. Nebraska-Omaha, 75
  6. Notre Dame, 62
  7. Alaska, 60
  8. Northern Michigan, 59
  9. Ferris State, 55
  10. Lake Superior, 30
  11. Bowling Green, 18
  12. Western Michigan, 17

The Media poll looks a little different. Michigan State still recieved the most first place votes with 38, however, it was Michigan who recieved more votes, thus giving making them the favorites to win the CCHA regular-season title in the media poll. Other changes include Northern Michigan (eighth in the coaches poll), they move up four spots to number four, while Ohio State who was fourth in the coaches poll was picked sixth in the media poll. A lot of flip flopping between teams in this poll

  2. Michigan State (38), 844
  3. Miami (13), 800
