59 Teams in 59 Days Wayne State

The 59 Teams in 59 Days tour continues as we hit day number 56. Today the Wayne State Warriors from Detroit are featured.

After their first apperance in the NCAA's in 2002-2003, the Warriors have not found the same success. In their last three years the Warriors have gone 29-64-13 over that span. Head coach Bill Wilkinson and the team will look to improve as the Wayne State only won six games all of last year.

So where is the strong point of the team. Last year there was none. Only two players scored 10+ goals last season. The defense was not much better as they allowed 138 goals in 38 games. Now granted it was a young team last year, however not much has changed.

And to mention in the offense, only two players scored more than 20 points last season, and one of those players graduated. The other will return for a Junior year in Adam Krug. However, if he wants to step up, he will have to improve on his seven goal campagin last season.

Goaltending wise, last year Will Hooper and Matt Kelly split time each getting 19 games in last season. Hooper will probably be the starting goaltender this year, with Senior Kevin Bonikowski, and incoming Freshmen Brett Bothwell as backups.

Overall this team will struggle this year. Who knows how many wins they'll get and who knows how head coach Bill Wilkinson will find the talent he once had in 2002-2003.

The predicted ceiling for Wayne State is fourth in the CHA, while the gutter is fifth.

Tommorrow we will make a trip to Kalamazoo, Michigan where the Western Michigan Broncos will be featured as we are inching closer to the final day of the 59 Teams in 59 Days tour.
