Berenson signs contract extension


Red Berenson, the University of Michigan head coach since 1984, has just recently signed a three year contract extension that will last through the 2008-2009 season.

Berenson has led his team to 16 consecutive NCAA apperances, which includes nine apperances to the Frozen Four and two National Championships. His record is 585-278-63. Conference honors include eight CCHA regular season titles and seven CCHA tournament titles.

Berenson, 66 was a graduate of Michigan in 1962, and played 17 seasons professionally which included stops in St. Louis, Montreal, New York Rangers, and Detroit.

Red's coaching career began in 1978 with St. Louis and later became head coach from 1980-1982. In 1981 he won the Jack Adams award given to the NHL's top coach.

The future looks bright for Michigan Hockey. Is another National Championship on their way back to Ann Arbor?
