West Regional Wrap-Up

One of the biggest upsets in NCAA tournament history happened this past weekend in Grand Forks, ND as the Holy Cross Crusaders upset the #2 ranked team in the tournament the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Tyler McGregor (pictured above) scored the game winning goal just 53 seconds into overtime.

Holy Cross gave Atlantic Hockey its first ever win in the NCAA tournament, only to go down to host North Dakota the next night.

Even though Holy Cross did not make the Frozen Four, one can consider this the most successful Holy Cross team in their brief history of hockey. After all they also won the Atlantic Hockey Regular Season and Tournament titles. The Crusaders did the same thing in 2004 but lost to North Dakota in the first round.

The weekend however belonged to host North Dakota as they scored 10 goals this weekend 5-1 over Michigan and 5-2 over Holy Cross.

For North Dakota this will be their 21st apperance in the Frozen Four.

All West Regional Team:

F- Jonathan Toews, North Dakota (MVP)
F- Tyler McGregor, Holy Cross
F- Ryan Duncan, North Dakota
D- Matt Samby, North Dakota
D- Jon Landry, Holy Cross
G- Jordan Parise, North Dakota

Tommorrow the last regional the Northeast regional will be reviewed.
