Weekly Wrap-Up BU Sweeps Maine in Orono

With Great goaltending by John Curry, and the return of Brandon Yip, the Boston University Terriers went into Maine and surprisingly swept the Maine Black Bears at Alfond Arena.

On Friday night BU shocked everyone when the offense was a factor in the game. In the first period Maine scored on the power play when Brent Shepheard got one passed John Curry to give Maine a 1-0 lead. 15 seconds later, BU came right back when Peter MacArthur scored to tie it at 1-1. In the second period MacArthur was at it again scoring two goals (giving him a hat trick for the night) including a shorthander to give BU a 4-1 lead. Maine would make it 4-2 when Josh Soares scored Maine's second power play goal of the game. Jason Lawrence for BU would add another power play goal giving BU a 5-2 lead going into the third. In the third period Bryan Ewing made it 6-2 1:27 into the third. So BU with a 6-2 lead could cruise into Saturday nights game right? Wrong! Keith Johnson added a power play goal Maine's third of the night to make it 6-3. Josh Soares would score a pair to make it 6-5. Maine had many oppurtunities in the last 3:46 to tie the game but it was too little too late as John Curry stopped 40 of 45 Maine Shots on goal in the 6-5 victory.

Saturday night the power play was not a factor for Maine. The Black Bears went 0-7 on the powerplay. Matt Gilroy, Dan McGoff, and Chris Higgins all had a goal for the Terriers. John Curry was spectacular again stopping all 30 Maine shots in a 3-0 shutout. Curry stopped 70 of 75 Maine shots this past weekend and proved again that he is arguably the best goalie in Hockey East.
